Earlier this week, nominations for the BET Awards 2017 were announced and while there was some controversy on the side of the American awards, the nominations for Best African Act look to be representative of the opinions of most.
Four Nigerian acts, Tekno, Mr Eazi, Wizkid and Davido, three South Africans, Nasty C, Babes Wodumo and AKA and Ghanaian Stonebwoy all made it onto the nomination list.
Tekno, Davido and Wizkid all coming off record deals with Colombia Records and RCA Records while Nasty C scores the nomination in light of his impressive 2016 EP, Bad Hair. Babes Wodumo makes the list with her successful pop single, Wololo in the background and Stonebwoy in the context of his continuing domination of Ghana’s dancehall scene. Mr Eazi as the biggest act to have broken out across the continent in the past year, and lastly AKA can thank singles like Caiphus and 10 Fingers for his appearance.
