The Federal Government yesterday announced that there is no Local Government Area in the country currently under the rule of Boko Haram.

The implication of this is that come February 14th elections shall be conducted all over the country as it is believed it is safe enough to do so.

The Coordinator of the National Information Centre (NIC) and Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr. Mike Omeri dismissed claims that the military had stepped up the fight in order to protect the areas in question in preparation for the general elections. Omeri claimed that the successes of the army have actually been due to the procurement of new equipment by the Army.

Omeri said although there were presence of Boko Haram members in some parts of the North-east, does not mean that those areas were under the control of the sect.

He also said many communities hitherto dominated by the sect members had been recaptured and the Nigerian troops were advancing to retake other affected areas.

According to him, the Nigerian forces did not only repel attacks, but are also on the trail of insurgents.
