In 2018, Burna Boy focused on the music and won our hearts again. The talent had never been a question but the laser focus and champion mentality had been found lacking. As the theme of election finds itself serving as a content farm of sorts, the self proclaimed African Giant spins off this and goes the social conscious path with his first 2019 release- Dangote.
The song focuses on the theme of Nigeria’s unemployment rate with Burna referencing the fact that Africa’s richest man is seeking to increase his wealth. The video is an abstract depiction of some of the grimiest parts of Lagos without Burna making an appearance till the closing scene. The narrative arc ends at Fela’s Shrine – an act that takes on from the sample and pays homage to Nigeria’s greatest musical mind.
