2019 is undoubtedly Burna Boy’s year. From stellar features to a Grammy worthy studio album to the creme of the cake, a coveted Grammy nomination, the Afrobeat giant has not only become Africa’s leading Singer but a rare gem on international planes which reflects in the myriad of international artistes clamoring for his signature Afrobeat tinged gruff vocals on their singles. This week, shortly after his solo delivery on a track off the Queen and Slim OST album and the announcement of his Grammy nomination, he lends his superpowers to Stormzy on his just-released fourth single of the year, the Fred Gibson produced Own It.

Joined by fellow Grammy winner and nominee, Ed Sheeran, Burna Boy takes control of the Hip-hop ballad’s hook and chorus, injecting his infectious energy into waist controlling lines that give life to the duo’s habitual opening verse. Ed Sheeran also impresses on the second verse with a fast-paced delivery uncommon to him which when joined with the work Burna and Stormzy have put in, makes for an electric performance.

For the trio, Own It is a  win that highlights each of their superpowers and for fans, the gyrating single is a song of the season.
