Don Paapi’s Boogie Down Is Evidence of An Artist Who Has Found His Sound

Posted on

Rarely do we see an artist burst onto the scene with a distinctive sound. In recent years, Mr Eazi slowing down Afrobeat music and perhaps Burna Boy are the most pronounced examples. For most artists, its a process. Creation leads to iteration before a sound they are most comfortable with is discovered. Most times though, it takes much longer than a year to discover the sound they want to champion, especially when its far off from the norm. For someone like D-O who started off as a rapper but has today decided against the rap route for obvious reasons and instead replaced it with more dancehall music, it took a couple years to discover himself. As such, discovering artists like Don Paapi who as a teenager who has only been releasing music for one year but have figured out and found their sound is fulfilling. Off what we may consider an early breakout single in 2017’s Rockstar, Don Paapi continues to explore dancehall with his latest venture tagged Boogie Down.

An ode to a lover, Don Paapi appreciates his baby girl, asks her to let the past remain in the past and promises she’ll have no worries with him.

A vibe!
