Dremo Hits All The Right Spots With 'Codename EP'

Dremo and Mayorkun were signed to DMW on the same day in April 2016. For Mayorkun, the journey has been more linear and some would say made more sense as a result of his identity as a pop act. Dremo on the other hand has had to deal with the lack of appreciation for rap on his rise. Scoring a couple successful records on the path, the true game changer for Dremo is going to be his debut project under DMW, the Codename EP.

Dominantly hinging the hooks of the records on his more pop aligned compatriots is one of the best decisions Dremo makes with his EP as it allows everyone specialise. On the same topic, the features on the project are complementary to Dremo’s sound and identity as a rapper. He balances standalone records with meaningful collaborations with Davido, Mayorkun, Peruzzi, Simi and Sinzu. Not only does he show he can take control on a record’s hook like he does on Bigger Meat, he also shows he can give way and share the limelight with Dapada and Kpa.

Singing Dremo meets straight rap Dremo and in the Nigerian context, that’s extremely important to appeal to a particularly tough audience. The Codename EP should propel Dremo into the fore of conversations around rap in Nigerian music.
