Tunde Bakare and Buhari

Tunde Bakare, running mate of President Buhari at the 2011 elections and Serving Overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly has urged President Buhari to immediately sack and probe, CBN Governor, Godwin Emiefile over the ongoing DasukiGate scandal.

Bakare, said this while delivering his State of the Nation address, titled, ‘Roadmap to successful change,’ in his church in Lagos on Sunday. Bakare argues that it is unfair to prosecute former National Security Adviser, Sumbo Dasuki for misappropriation of funds while Emefiele who made the funds available remains comfortable in his position as CBN Governor.

Bakare is quoted as saying, “The CBN currently contributes negatively to the Nigerian state in more ways than one. Firstly, the CBN has become a conduit for politicians to drain the nation. Otherwise, how can a letter of barely two paragraphs, addressed to the current CBN Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, by the then NSA, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.), become the authority to incur expenditure leading to cash flow of $37m and several million euros? In decent climes, the CBN governor cannot continue in office while the NSA is accounting for his alleged offences.”

Bakare went on to unveil that he believes the CBN Act of 2007 must be overhauled as it confers too much power on the apex bank and inevitably encourages corruption.

Tunde Bakare claims the act gives the CBN the power to decide the printing of the naira, the amount to be printed, the currency/dirty notes to be destroyed “of which the CBN staff can take as much dirty notes as they like, and inject it back into the system while keeping all of us in the dark without any checks and balances”.

Bakare also went on to touch on the removal of fuel subsidies under both Goodluck Jonathan and President Buhari’s governments.

The important question however, Should Emefiele be sacked and probed for doing his job?
