Earning the notice of publications and authorities in the West for his remake of Donald Glover’s critical record, This Is America, Falz has hugged the spotlight over the past week. On a Democracy Day special episode of Wazobia Max’s Hello Nigeria, Laila Johnson Salami and Olive Emodi engage with Falz on his recently released This Is Nigeria and his recent place as a social commentator.
The conversation touches on some of the decisions Falz made in his video, his stance on the need for more of his counterparts to also inspire discourse with their work. He goes on to suggest a body of work centred around social commentary is in the works and while it’s an interesting interview, it fails to look into some issues about generalisation which is one of the only legitimate knocks on the important adaptation.
