It’s been a busy time in Ekiti. Following the exit of former Governor, Ayo Fayose and the inauguration of the new Kayode Fayemi administration, the latter has proceeded to work by undoing some of the disagreeable legacies of the former.

Fayemi signed an executive order to stop the payment of education development levy by students of state schools. The Education Development Levy was introduced by Ayodele Fayose in 2015. The levy mandates the payment of N500 and N1,000 for students of primary and secondary schools respectively.

The Governor had previously condemned the fact that underage children were paying levies when their parents were already paying taxes. He promised that the state government would do its utmost not to add to the burden of residents as a result of the harsh economy and the spate of unpaid salaries inherited from the last administration.

The Governor also said his government would commence a school feeding programme in all public schools by December.
