In order to enhance the relationship between the EFCC and the United States, the FBI has donated forensic equipment called the Forensic Recovery of Evidence Device (F.R.E.D) to the EFCC.

According to This Day, the equipment was presented to the Head of Operations at the Lagos Zonal Office for the EFCC by Dehab Ghereab, the United States acting Consul General.

The F.R.E.D is designed to enhance the EFCC’s efforts in fighting cyber crime and standardise its operations. The ultimate goal being that it will further help the EFCC to analyse, process and preserve digital evidence. The evidence can then be presented in court which will make adjudication less of a task for our judges.

Ghereab stated: “As we engage in these practices, we needed our counterparts, so the FBI office made an assessment of the prevailing cases of cyber-based crimes which are not unique to Nigeria.”

Ghereab also acknowledged the long-term partnership between the EFCC and the FBI, which has lasted for over a decade and she praised the EFCC for its professionalism in operations- encouraging the commission to keep up their work.
