All Federal Government Colleges in Yobe, Adamawa and Borno State have been closed down, due to fear of new Boko Haram attacks in the North East, where over 40 students were killed last week in Federal Government College, Yobe State.

Mr. Nyesom Wike, the supervising Minister of Education, made the announcement in Abuja on Wednesday through his spokesman, Simeon Nwakaudu.

The affected schools, also known as Unity Schools are:

  1. Borno : Federal Government Girls College, Munguno, and Federal Science and Technical College, Lassa
  2. Adamawa: Federal Science and Technical College, Michik
  3. Yobe: Federal Government College, Potiskum and Federal Government College, Buni Yadi

The schools are feared to be possible targets of the militants, who have been targeting schools lately, and the government made the decision in order to save student and staff from danger.

Wike has further directed that candidates scheduled to take the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination, the National Examination Council and Basic Education Certificate Examination at the FGGC, Potiskum, will now take those tests at the FGGC in Bauchi State.
