KANO EMIRATE COUNCIL ASKS JONATHAN TO REVERSE SANUSI’S SUSPENSION

The Kano Emirate Council has condemned the suspension of Nigeria’s Central Bank Governor, Sanusi Lamido, by President Goodluck Jonathan.

In a statement in Hausa on Friday, the most senior Councillor in the Council, Tijjani Hashim, described President Jonathans actions as not in order.

Mr. Hashim said government should follow due process in anything it does. He said the way the CBN governor was removed from office appeared not to have been done in accordance with the law as Mr. Sanusi was not given a fair hearing before he was suspended.

Mr. Hashim thanked the National Assembly for rejecting Mr. Sanusi’s suspension and called on President Jonathan to reverse his decision.

He also urged the presidency to follow due process by reverting to the law by which the Central Bank of Nigeria is governed, the CBN Act.

The suspended CBN governor, who is of the Kano royal family, is also a traditional title holder in Kano.
