Kayode Kasum’s Sugar Rush Joins the Nollywood ₦100 million Club

Having grossed ₦110 million in its first week, Kayode Kasum’s Sugar Rush has joined King of Boys, Wedding Party, etc. in the exclusive Nollywood ₦100 million club. It is also the fifth film released in 2019 to have surpassed the 100M mark, following Living in Bondage: Breaking Free, The Bling Lagosians, Merry Men 2 and Your Excellency, which is impressive given how poor the box office returns were earlier in the year. In Nollywood’s history, it becomes only the 13th movie to cross the ₦100 mark.

This marks the first time a relatively unknown director is hitting the 100 million mark, but it is understandable given the film’s star power—it features Adesua Etomi, Banky W, Bisola Aiyeola, and Omoni Oboli. Also, it is executive produced by Jade Osiberu, who has been building a loyal fanbase since her days at Ndani TV.

Sugar Rush follows three sisters—Shola, Bola, and Susan—who come across 800,000 dollars, go on a spending spree, and end up victims of their aspirations. The film received praise for its hilarity and superb visual effects.

None of the 2019’s 100 million grosser have crossed the 200 million mark, Sugar Rush has the potential to do so if it can maintain its momentum at the box office.
