MARIA VON TRAPP, LAST MEMBER OF SOUND OF MUSIC FAMILY PASSES ON

Posted on

Maria von Trapp, the last surviving member of the Trapp Family Singers, the inspiration behind the  ‘Sound of Music’ film has passed away. She was 99 and died peacefully at her home in Vermont, USA. Her brother, Johannes vin Trapp described her as “a lovely woman who was one of the few truly good people” to the Associated Press.

She migrated to America with her family in the late 30s from Nazi Austria and they made a name for themselves performing and traveling round the States.

She was the 2nd child of Captain von Trapp from his marriage to his first wife.

The 1965 movie is one of the all time greats and earned the honor of being selected for film preservation in the National Film Registry by the United States Library of Congress after fulfilling the criteria of being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”. It is also the 5th highest grossing film of all time when inflation is considered.

May her soul rest in peace.
