MEET THE NEW GOVERNOR OF ANAMBRA STATE, CHIEF WILLIE OBIANO

Chief Willie Obiano served as an Executive Director of Business Banking at Fidelity Bank Plc. Mr. Obiano started his banking career as a supervisor with First Bank of Nigeria in 1981 from where he moved to Texaco Nigeria plc., an oil marketing company as an Accountant.

Mr. Obiano rose to the position of Chief Internal Auditor in Texaco before joining Fidelity. In Fidelity, he worked at various departments ranging from Operations to Marketing and Internal Audit. He served as an Executive Director of Fidelity Bank Plc.

Mr. Obiano is a Fellow of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria. He holds a B.Sc in Accounting and MBA from The University of Lagos.

Obiano succeeded Peter Obi after winning the November 30 Anambra governorship election with a total of 180, 178 votes to beat his other 22 contenders from different political parties.

Obiano’s closest rival, Comrade Tony Nwoye of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) polled 97,700 votes, while Senator Chris Ngige of the All Progressives Congress (APC) scored 95,963 votes.

Today Governor Peter Obi formally handed over to the governor elect Obiano.

The event, which took place at the famous Alex Ekwueme Square in the heart of Awka, the state capital, attracted people from all walks of life.
