Nigerian Film ‘Eyinmofe’ Secures Sales Representative ahead of its Berlinale Premiere

Eyinmofe (This Is My Desire), one of the Nigerian films showing at the 70th Berlin International Film Festival, has secured a sales representative ahead of its premiere.

The film will be represented by Aspect Ratio, (a New York-based acquisition agency that represents “radical and boundary-pushing directors”), who have secured its distribution rights outside of Asia and Africa, where Lagos-based GDN Studios, who co-produced the feature with the US-based Ominira Studios, retains.

Eyinmofe is the debut feature project from twin filmmakers, Arie Esiri and Chuko Esiri; the latter penned the screenplay. The story follows Rosa (a hairdresser) and Mofe (a factory technician) in their pursuit of greener pastures outside Nigeria and the harsh realities that await them in Europe. The film is divided into two parts: Spain and Italy, with each section dedicated to one of our protagonists.

At the bottom of the socio-economic ladder, status, money, gender, skin colour and family structures are inextricably connected. Eyimofe speaks of these entanglements with emphatic patience, which grow ever tighter.

Eyinmofe is the first project from the twins since their 2017 short, Goose. It stars Jude Akuwudike, Temi Ami-Williams, Adetomiwa Edun, Toyin Oshinaike and Cynthia Ebijile. The film premieres on February 24, 2020.

The 2020 Berlin International Film Festival will also be screening Abba Makama’s The Lost Okoroshi and Cidade Passaro (Shine Your Eyes), a Nigerian-Brazilian production starring O.C Ukeje.
