LA-based talent agency Creative Artists Agency (CAA) has added Nigerian filmmaker, C. J. Obasi, to its roster and will represent the director globally. An excited Obasi broke the news on his Twitter page: “Very happy to announce I am now represented by the Creative Artist Agency (CAA).”

CAA is one of the most influential talent agencies in Hollywood. They represent the likes of Robert De Niro, Jordan Peele, James Cameron, Steven Spielberg and Robert Downey Jr. Mo Abudu is another Nigerian filmmaker on their roster. The company’s experience operating in Hollywood makes them the perfect talent agency for filmmakers from Africa pushing for international acclaim.
The deal is another remarkable milestone for Obasi who recently won the Norwegian South Film Fund, Sørfond, for his upcoming feature Mami Wota—a black and white fantasy on the mermaid goddess.
Obasi’s 2018 Afro-futuristic short, Hello, Rain, an adaptation of Nnedi Okorafor’s short story, Hello, Moto, toured several international film festivals—including the prestigious BFI London Film Festival—gathering awards and critical acclaim. He is most known for directing the award-winning Ojuju and co-writing Genevieve Nnaji’s Lionheart.
