In a world that has been painstakingly tagged a “man’s world”, it comes as no surprise that the work industries are traditionally male-dominated, but what seems to be more exciting is how women are constantly breaking the glass ceiling in every burgeoning industry inlcuding the film industry.  Female stars and moviemakers are staking out a space to respond to the aspirations and struggles of everyday women as most recently shown by Genevieve Nnaji, whose directorial debut ‘Lionheart’ premiered at TIFF and was picked up worldwide by Netflix as a Netflix Original.

In celebration of Miu Miu’s Women’s Tales series, which celebrates female filmmakers, Nigerian-born photographer, Ruth Ossai, whose work is known for its portrait and studio photography that empowers Nigerian communities by creating narratives with her subjects that celebrate their personal identities, focuses her lens on the country’s booming film industry, and the women within it.

Her latest project with Miu Miu, creates a new editorial using the Nollywood aesthetic to showcase the beauty of women in the industry. The editorial was released through publication ‘Garage‘.
