Davido’s Son of Mercy EP has just dropped and it features 5 Tracks, Gbagbe Oshi, Coolest Kid in Africa, Maga to Mugu, Return and How Long and artistes like Tinashe and Nasty C. We’ve decided to give you 5 fun facts about the EP just cos there’s 5 songs on the body of work.
1. Everyone who worked on the EP but one Dun Deal, an American producer has African roots.
Yeah, Nasty C is from South Africa, Tinashe has Zimbabwean roots and producers like Kid Dominant, Shizzi and Dun Deal are to credit for the production. The only person who is completely unrelated to the African continent and works on the EP is Atlanta-based American producer, Dun Deal.
2. Simi is featured on the EP.
Why Simi’s name is not on Maga To Mugu, we don’t know but yeah the track is a back and forth between Davido and Simi. Oh yeah, Davido actually tagged Simi as one Nigerian artist he wishes he could sign in a radio interview with The Beat.
3. There is Yoruba on every track.
With Davido getting signed to Sony, many would have expected that he go for a more American or International vibe with his music. The fact though is that on every track on the EP, Davido or one of the artistes on the track speaks in Yoruba. Yeah, Davido got Tinashe speaking Yoruba. Guess, it’s Yoruba to the world then!
4. Davido does not say Omo Baba Olowo or OBO once on the EP.
Yeah you know how that’s Davido’s nickname. For the longest time it’s what many people have called him so it should amaze you that not once did Davido utter the words “Omo Baba Olowo”, maybe he’s replaced that nickname with Son of Mercy. (Simi does say Omo Baba Olowo though and oh, Davido reminds us he’s balling in many other ways.)
5. There’s a bit for everyone on the EP
Davido come’s through with an array of genres on the EP. There’s Afro Fusion and elements of House on How Long, Afrobeat on every track, Rap on Coolest Kid in Africa. Yeah, just listen, you’ll understand when you done!
