The acting Inspector General of Police, Mr Suleiman Abba, in Kaduna on Wednesday said the force was fully prepared to ensure the safety of lives and property of Nigerians during the polls.

The IGP, speaking shortly after addressing the rank and file of the Kaduna State Police Command, said security problems in several states of the federation would be adequately addressed before the February elections.

The police boss  assured Nigerians that the Police were fully prepared to ensure  adequate security before and during the elections.

Abba said, “The officers and men of the force have  undergone training for the purpose of next year’s general election to ensure that both the voters and the election officials are well protected.”

He charged officers and men of the Kaduna Police Command to exhibit the spirit of patriotism and integrity in the discharge of  their duties as this would form the basis for their promotion.

The IGP, who said the  familiarisation  visit to Kaduna was to update the  officers and men of the command  on the vision and mission of the Nigeria Police force, and the need for them to change their negative attitudes that had been affecting the image of the force.

He also warned that his administration would  not tolerate a situation whereby officers continued to dent the image of the force  by compromising the mission and vision guiding the force.

He added that any officer found wanting must be prepared to face the music.

Earlier in his speech, the state Commissioner of Police, Umar Shehu, told the IG the successes recorded so far by his men in the areas of crime prevention and ensuring a peaceful environment.
