The NBA Trade Deadline Has Passed, Here’s What Every Team Was Up To.

As a Boston Celtics fan, the trade deadline was exactly what I expected. The Celtics were rumored to be trading for almost every player on the market and ended up with the exact same roster as they started the day with. But no biggie, when you’re on pace for a 50 win season with a top 3 pick in the summer and a first rate destination for free agents, you don’t really have much to worry about. But since the Celtics didn’t get to what the rest of the league was up to.

Let’s start a couple of days before the actual trade deadline. I won’t mention all the trades that happened, just the major ones. There’s no better place to start than the fleecing that happened on February 19th. On that quiet Sunday, the Pelicans (I know right… the Pelicans!) committed highway robbery. Somehow, the Pelicans GM convinced the Kings to trade them DeMarcus Cousins (and Omri Casspi) for 23 year old rookie Buddy Hield, Tyreke Evans, Langston Galloway, a first round pick and a second round pick. DeMarcus Cousins is arguably the best center in the league, averaging 28 points per game and 10 rebounds. Let’s just say the other side of the trade isn’t close to being worth that. And that’s not taking into account Omri Casspi.

Some other trades that happened before the deadline day include, the Rockets getting Lou Williams from the Lakers. Lou Williams is a contender for Sixth Man of the Year, along with Eric Gordon, who was already on the Rockets. Talk about offensive firepower. The Hawks traded Tiago Splitter and two picks for Ersan Ilyasova.

Now onto the trade deadline. Word of advice, trade deadline days are always less exciting as rumors might make you feel. Both of the two big names that were rumored to leave (Jimmy Butler and Paul George) stayed put with the Chicago Bulls and the Indiana Pacers respectively. The Bulls were still involved in a trade deal that day. They traded Taj Gibson and Doug McDermott for Cameron Payne, Anthony Morrow and Joffrey Lauvergne. The Bulls got rid of useful players for useless players and added a pick to sweeten the deal. Sometimes I feel like I would be a better GM than some of the ones heading these teams. The 76ers traded Nerlens Noel to the Mavericks for Andrew Bogut, Justin Anderson and a first round pick. Mike Scott was traded from the Hawks to the Suns for cash. P.J Tucker was traded to the Raptors from the Suns for Jared Sullinger and two second round picks. Roy Hibbert was traded to the Nuggets from the Bucks for a heavily protected second round pick.

If you want to see all the trade deals that happened on that day and the rest of the season, here is the link. But I won’t waste my time talking about even more insignificant players. Bye now.
