Tiwa Savage dissected the lyrics of her latest hit single, 49-99 , in an interview with Genius. The singer talked co-writing the track with Olamide, “I would say most of the record was already done before I got there, I had to obviously add a little bit of myself into it and change some things.” She also explained the origin of 49-99, the term is from Fela Kuti’s 1978 album Shuffering and Shmiling, which highlighted the harsh reality of the average Nigerian.

Despite the mixed reaction that followed its release, 49-99 has been doing great numbers; the Pheelz-produced track has over five million views on Youtube.
