Brettina began printing her name on the hearts of music lovers in the year 2010, of which she has continued the streak ever since then, raising the bar with every release and project. Born in Nassau, The Bahamas, Brettina is one Bahamian singer who is committed and determined to spread the gospel of her music. Incredibly skilled in serenading her listeners with her sultry vocals, Brettina continues to be a pacifier with New Day, her just-released EP which succeeds the release of one of its lead singles, Simple Pleasures.

Speaking of the EP, she said:

“The EP is made up of four songs: Simple Pleasures, Bop Baiye, Low and New Day. I’m hoping to release a full-length album in the near future.” She pitched on the fact that this EP is only filling in as an intro story, she hopes to release a full album in a few months.”

Brettina’s fusion of rhythms and lyrics is a really commendable one, one that translates to the new meaning she gives jazz music. It’s on top of this inventiveness introductory track, New Day is built, a track that exudes an atmosphere of peace. Bop Baiye is the second song off the EP. Much like she did on its predecessor, she serenades and calms her listeners with its lulling sound. She admonishes them to let their past remain in the past, not allowing it to affect their present and even future. Bop Baiye is a direct representation of traditional jazz. The third track, Low is a vocal reminisce of old love. The strings from the lead guitar coupled with the rhythmic chords and kicks ooze a nostalgic feel. Brettina describes how when she is lost in the arms of her muse, time loses its essence. She describes her weakness in the presence of said muse, “...I’ll just lay low,” she almost breathes.

The earlier released Simple Pleasures is the final song on New Day. Speaking of the single, she said,

“we were almost done with a session and we were just sitting back, talking. We wrote that song last year and we were just talking about the simple things in life and it went from there. In twenty minutes the song was done, and we didn’t think anything of it until this whole virus and everything happening in our world.”

Brettina has what it takes to alter moods and create encompassing experiences and New Day as much of a personal story it is, has all the makings of an immersive body of work.
