Olamide Goes All-Yoruba on Year Opener, Science Student

Nigerian lingo is almost entirely shaped by musicians. For the cool kids, the words of Davido often go on to become common place. Over the past few years, for the average residents of Lagos, Olamide’s words have had no peer. On Science Student, Olamide’s year opener, he goes for an all-yoruba look as he raps about substance and alcohol use.

Produced by BBanks and Young Jonn, the upbeat record is another apt record to break into the shaku shaku, Lagos’ most in-vogue dance at the moment. It shall be interesting to see how and if Olamide visualises the record or faces any sanctions as it could be said to encourage substance use by organizations like the NBC. In reality though, all this song does is highlight the reality that substance use is common place to many Nigerian youth.
