Lagos is slowly becoming a melting pot of foreign cultures. From expats moving here for work to repats relocating to start families, Lagos is full of people bringing “something” from outside. This is slowly trickling down to its restaurant scene and the results are very special. So without further ado, here’s five of our favorite restaurants in Lagos serving menus from the less traveled corners of the world.

BL Restaurant
BL is short for “Bulgarian Lebanese” and everything it lacks in a creative name, it more than makes up for it on your plate. Bulgarian is one of the more interesting cuisines from the Balkan region because of it’s noticeable influence from Persian and Turkish cuisine. Expect lots of meats, soups, and excellent pastry.

Salma’s
The Lebanese have one of the biggest expat communities in Lagos and you really don’t need to look too far to spot their influence on local dining culture. I mean, there’s a shawarma spot on almost every big street in Lagos. But shawarma is only a little part of Lebanese cuisine and at Salma’s, you get an excellent introductory course.

Kaldi House Lagos
In the middle of Ilupeju’s industrial district, you’ll find the only restaurant in Lagos serving East Africa’s favorites. For most people, Kaldi’s is known for their coffee but at Kaldi House, the East African experience goes beyond that. If you’ve never tried injera, this is your chance.

Lecker Cafe
Apparently, German food is a lot more than bratwurst and beer. We had no idea until Lecker Cafe popped up in Lekki. Pro-Tip: avoid the non-German items on the menu.

Orchid House
As far as hidden gems in Lagos go, Orchid House might be the most concealed of the lot. Until late 2017, the best Thai food in Lagos was tucked away in Apapa. The Pineapple Fried Rice and the curries, in particular, are as authentic as Lagos permits.
