Abiodun, Sanwo-Olu, Makinde win Ogun, Lagos, Oyo Governorship Elections

Governorship candidates of the All Progressives Congress, Dapo Abiodun and Babajide Sanwo-Olu have emerged as governors-elect of their respective states, Ogun and Lagos.

Mr Abiodun overcame fierce competition from governor Ibikunle Amosun-backed candidate, Adekunle Akinlade of the Allied Peoples Movement to win the race.

The Returning Officer for the election, Professor Idowu Olayinka, declared him the winner and returned him elected after announcing that he got 241,670 votes as against Mr Akinlade’s 222,153 votes.

Candidate of the ADC, Gboyega Isiaka, emerged third with 110,422 votes, while Senator Buruji Kashamu of the Peoples Democratic Party was fourth with 70,290 votes.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu garnered a total number of 739,445 votes to defeat Jimi Agbaje of the PDP who polled 206,141 votes, according to official results declared by the electoral commission, INEC.

Sanwo-Olu also won in all the local government areas in the state.

Meanwhile, in Oyo state, the PDP’s candidate, Seyi Makinde defeated Adebayo Adelabu of the ruling party, APC to emerge victorious in the gubernatorial poll.

Makinde won 28 out of the 33 local governments in the state, leaving the All Progressives Congress with only five.

He received 515, 621 votes to defeat his closest rival from the APC, Bayo Adelabu, who polled 357, 982 votes.

The margin of defeat is 157,639 votes.
