Damilola Orimogunje Breaks Down Sex Slavery in Short Film “MO”

Posted on

Everyone enjoys the big screen but the compromise of a short film on Vimeo or YouTube is amazing – especially when accompanied with incredible cinematography and that’s exactly how Damilola Orimogunje wins our hearts with new short film, Mo. Centred around the perils of Moremi (Nkem Marchie) who is thrown into sex slavery by her aunt, Madam Kofo (Funlola Aofiyebi-Raimi) as a means of paying back her parents’ debt, the short film accurately shows the reality many are forced to live.

The film visualises the nature of madams in the sex slavery business and juxtaposes it with the internal battles that many sex slaves must deal with. It shows the length of the damage that often occurs in the lives of sex slaves and gives suggestions as to ways to deal with those who have put them in such positions. Co-written and directed by Damilola Orimogunje, Mo has been much-admired since the release last year. The film won Best Nollywood Short Film at the Real Time Film Festival and was recently released online on the 26th December 2017.
