Lagos-Ibadan railway construction set to begin

The Federal Government had in the past given the Chinese Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC), the contractors of the Lagos-Ibadan Rail Project a deadline of December 2018. Recent conversations have however shown that the company sees the deadline as an impossible one to meet.

The contractors are said to be looking into some of challenges that inevitably make it impossible to complete the deadline for the project. A CCECC official who spoke to This Day reportedly highlighted that sizeable amounts of current infrastructure must first be demolished and relocated before the rail project can continue.

He highlighted issues like the rail lines passing through army barracks, water and gas pipes which need relocation and electricity wires while suggesting that if the FG can take care of the issues at hand then the deadline can be met.
The CCECC reportedly revealed that Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, recently confirmed that he was aware of the challenges but the completion dateline will be met.
