Nigerian-American visual artist, writer and director Ibra Ake last night won the ‘Best Music Video’ award at the 61st Grammy Awards for his work on Childish Gambino’s This is America video making it his first ever Grammy award.
In addition to the award for ‘Best Music Video’ the track garnered awards for “Song of the Year’, ‘Record of the Year’ and ‘Best Rap/Sung Performance’
Some other acknowledgements enjoyed by Ibra Ake include features in prominent publications like Vogue, CNN MTV and writing for the hit TV series Atlanta for which he has received a nomination for Writer’s Guild of America Award for Television: Comedy Series.
Ibra Ake joins other first time Grammy award winners like Cardi B, Dua Lipa, H.E.R and Ella Mai.
