According to a survey of women across the world by Thomson Reuters Foundation, Lagos just might be one of the most dangerous megacities in the world. Lagos sits alongside Cairo and Kinshasa on the list of the top 20 cities alongside cities like London, Paris, Sao Paulo, New York and Moscow.

Some of the factors that were taken into consideration included access to economic opportunities with factors like access to education and ownership of land as metrics, cultural practices and whether or not they are considered harmful as well as access to healthcare and the risk of facing sexual violence.

The survey results were based on a minimum of 15 experts from each country with the experts compiled from a database of women rights’ experts built by the Thomson Reuters Foundation team. In total, 380 experts were surveyed with 355 responses, which corresponds to a response rate of 93 percent.
