Letter to my mother: Ademide Adepetun

Dear Mother,

I have been tasked to write a letter of appreciation to you; one that shows my appreciation of you. To express all the things that you have done for me and the level of love I feel towards you, confined to the simplicity of words, would be a serious injustice, but I shall give it a try.

Mummy, you are my gem and this is for a number of reasons. You have raised me to be pure hearted, a characteristic that barely shines as bright as your heart and the warmth that it contains. Your altruistic nature has made you an angel in people’s lives. Your willingness and selflessness to aid people in need is beyond the comprehension of logical explanations, it is done simple out of your kindness. You are looked up to, you are adored.

Mummy, in the past few years and with all that our family has been through and is going through, you are the one threading all the pieces together. You catered for my needs, settling for less for yourself and sacrificing comfort for us. What you have done is like covering me with your body in a collapsing building. You have pampered me, sheltered me, and taken care of me. I remember the times when I would see you come back from work, your face ridden with stress and worry. I would ask what was wrong and if you were okay and you would smile and say “Everything is fine.” You have put yourself in difficult situations to provide for me and for this i am forever touched for in you I have found the privilege of being genuinely loved.

From the time you rocked me as a baby, to the times where you spanked me in discipline and to the times when you celebrated me; I will always have a life of cherished youthful moments. You made me who I am today and for this I am forever grateful. I love you mother and I cannot wait to spoil you silly with happiness and comfort.

Love,

Ademide
