“Her children show their appreciation, and her husband praises her.” – Proverbs 31: 28 (GNB)
Dear Mum,
You are many wonderful things to us, so we write to celebrate you this Mothers’ Day.
You taught us how to love ourselves – Confidence is one of your strong points. From you, we learnt to be confident and yet not arrogant. You taught us how to love one another – by bringing us up in love, you created a very special bond in us. Many people wonder if we are twins! You taught us how to love others – from your dedication to bringing up fine ladies and gentlemen at The Vale College, and through the selfless service that you have rendered to the Ibadan Home for Motherless Babies for many years, we have learnt how to love others, especially those that are less privileged.
When we were younger and more impressionable externally, you (and dad) helped us realize early that “we are not rich o!”, and that we are privileged to be comfortable as we are. We learned from you the value of hard work and enterprise. You made it clear to us that if we were lazy, we would suffer. You taught us the responsibility of the knowledge that the little that we have been blessed with should be used to bless others.
You celebrate us when we do what is right, and correct us sternly when we do what is wrong. You give us the freedom to learn from experiences, but protect us when we are at risk. We know that you always have our backs, no matter what, and you are always being willing to sacrifice all else to ensure that we have happy and comfortable lives – our “CBN”.
Everybody says this about their mum, but you really are the best mother in the world, a shining Proverbs 31 Woman – A woman of Noble Character. Altogether, you let your love of God reflect in your daily living, and from you we have learnt of God’s love, and are firmly rooted in the knowledge of Him.
You are our mother and friend, our biggest cheerleader, and our guardian angel. For all these, and the fact that we are blessed to be born of your womb, we celebrate you today and always. We owe you that blissful retirement that you dream of!
Mum, May you live long, in good health, and the endless joy which you deserve.
We love you, always and forever.
Kayode and Tuntun.
Mothers’ Day, 2014.
