Letters To Buhari: Chinyere Eze

My Dear President Buhari,

I wish to commend you for the dedication you have shown in your short time in office. It is quite apparent, even to those of us Nigerians in diaspora, that you are greatly concerned with the growth and improvement of our great nation. It is also refreshing to be ascertained that you intend to fulfill the promises you made during your campaign. One of these promises would be the fight against the Bokp Haram terrorist group. I look forward to seeing more work from you on that front.

However, much has been said about your intentions towards the country. The bone of contention in Nigeria, currently seems to be the issue of appointments. You addressed this issue in an interview with BBC. While I acknowledge your concern and determination to make Nigeria a better place, not every Nigerian feels this way. It is unfair, to say the least, to appoint politicians based on their close proximity to you. You may view these appointments as rewarding your allies for their long-suffering, some view it as favoritism and centralization of power.

Furthermore, delegation of power amongst our leaders is essential to the successful running of our great country, as well as mindfulness of ethnic diversity, and equally sharing among the various ethnicities in Nigeria as is stated in the Constitution. I will be highly anticipating appointments based on merit and ability rather than trust in the future.

Lastly, I want to commend you, Mr president, for speaking out on the accusations made against you. It gives us Nigerians a sense that we have a leader who is listening to our concerns. I hope to see much more of that over the next four years.

Sincerely,

Chinyere Eze
