According to the Federal Government, primary and secondary schools across Nigeria shall begin teaching math and science related subjects in some of the country’s indigenous languages.
The revelation was made by Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu at in Abuja on Wednesday at the inauguration of a committee which shall work on developing local languages as tools to pass knowledge in the said languages.According to the minister, the move which has been adopted in countries like India and China shall better aid students at understanding the said subjects and hopefully inspire more interest across the board for these subjects.
Onu then went on to speak on the importance of science and mathematics to Nigeria’s development. He stated that for the country to grow in the right direction, we must support efforts to develop the said subjects and suggested that some of the socio-economic issues we suffer from today are as a result of the lack of poor application of math and science.
