Uber Initiates Operations In Third Nigerian Metropolis, Benin City

Five years after its initial introduction to the Nigerian market, transportation company, Uber has launched its first phase of operations in its third Nigerian metropolis, Benin City. This expansion will mark an attempt by Uber to catch up to Bolt, it’s biggest rival in the market, who currently services five Nigerian cities.

During a visit to Nigeria in June, Uber’s Global Head of Business Development, Brooks Entwistle shared that Uber’s approach to growth would change significantly from seeking expansion aggressively to one where there’s a more defined understanding of the stakes at hand. In this vein, the expansion to Benin was one the Edo State Government invested their time in working closely with the company prior to the announcement.
