Wizkid is one artiste who has mastered the art of manipulating the yearnings of his fans. The Starboy Label Leader went from being the infamous King of Disappearing Acts in the Nigerian music industry to returning with two strong contenders for Record Of The Year one of which jumpstarted the renaissance of Duncan Mighty’s artistry to stirring controversy that controlled the narratives.
Earlier this year, when he started pulling out of the shadows, he teased the release of Gucci Snake as his first official single of the year. For some reason, the release of the well anticipated track was withheld, not after it had received airplay on Trace TV more than once though. He then went on to execute a dual drop of Fever and Master Groove; both of which received massive airplay in the early days of their release but have faded out which might be one of the reasons why Wizkid decided in the early hours of today to let Gucci Snake out; a standard effort with pinches of street influences for which he enlists Slimcase; a rising Street sonic influencer whose presence on the track does not do much in eliminating its unforgettable nature.
Like almost every other Wizkid offering, Gucci Snake might gradually grow on us but in comparison to how far he has gone this year, racking up more international features, fairly prestigious nominations, chart toppers among others, Gucci Snake is somewhat a taint on his perceived elite record.
