Yesterday, a survey came out suggesting Lagos is one of the world’s most dangerous megacities for women taking factors like economics, cultural practices and access to healthcare into consideration. While that is a harsh reality we must acknowledge and work hard to change, it’s interesting to see that some are concerned about immortalizing the names of women who did some positive in society but continue to remain unsung.
With work underway on the second phase of Fara Park Estate on the Lekki-Ajah expressway, Okang Ashiwel Ochui who seems to have been given the task of naming the streets in the housing estate has taken the initiative to use them to honour some female unsung heroes. He sought help on Twitter and best believe the timeline came through with a formidable list of women who have done their thing but you just may never have heard of.
Guys, I need to name 21 streets, and I'd like to name them after some of the undercelebrated women in Nigeria's history. Suggestions? pic.twitter.com/raBPnoZ4aA

Obviously, there were way more names than 21 however, Mr Ochui tweeted a list of 31 names which shall be further trimmed to the desired number. How exactly we arrived at these names, nobody really knows and to be honest isn’t really relevant seeing as there’s really no way of ranking the impact people make. All that matters at the end of the day is that some appreciation is shown to some great people including the likes of the late Stella Adadevoh, Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, Buchi Emecheta, Oby Ezekwesili and Dora Akunyuli to name a few.
Updated list to include more names; this will be tough: pic.twitter.com/Sik8mAKI9u
