Lagos-raised Vancouver-based artist Adewolf has released his second official single of the year titled Bare Nec.. On Bare Nec. Adewolf goes down memory lane and finds a silver lining in all the things going wrong around him.
Adewolf’s compelling storytelling takes us through life in Lagos as he deals with the dangers at police checkpoints, the internal battles of envy and more. “Cause I wan’ flex like Hushpuppi but my conscience got the best of me, guy no time for jealousy, make I enjoy bare necessities,” he sings as he references former Nigerian internet personality and convicted felon Hushpuppi in his message of content and gratitude.
The synth-led single is graced with vocals from Khamisa who encourages listeners to be grateful for the little things and delivers a contemporary spin on a popular praise and worship song. They duet on the chorus saying “count them one by one, count them one by one, I’m counting all my blessings if I lose men that’s another lesson.”
As the year comes to an end, this is the perfect song to help practice positive reflection and gratitude for the blessings received throughout the year. “I wrote this song as a reminder to myself to look for lessons in losses and to stay appreciative no matter how crappy things might feel in the moment,” Adewolf says.
