AfroJam Sessions Takes Lagos on an Electrifying Live Experience

The rise of Afrobeats, and its subgenres around the world, has opened up opportunities to share the music with diverse audiences globally. AfroJam Sessions, a music festival underpinned by performances by various disc jockeys, was inspired by the need to create and curate this experience and is on the path to recreate it on its world tour.

The first ever edition of AfroJam Sessions was hosted at Moist Beach, in Oniru, Lagos, on  17 October 2023. The organizers described it as an “electrifying DJ event celebrating the rich African passion for world music.”

The night  featured a cast of some of the most talented disc jockeys in Africa, who played a number of  Afrobeats songs from around the continent and immersed the audience into a rich cultural experience.

The event, which was hosted by hype man Monolo Spanky, was headlined by ace DJ and record producer DJ Tunez. DJ Tunez has produced many Afrobeats hits, including Wizkid’s PAMI, Skepta’s Energy, and Wande Coal’s Iskaba. The event also provided a platform for promising, up-and-coming djs.

The night opened with sets by Honeeay, Calix, and John Banji, who had the audience swaying to a number of Afrobeats songs. The night also saw a performance from Port Harcourt-born Uncle Bubu, who champions a djing style called Genre Fusion. The curtains closed on the event with a performance by DJ Tunez.

As shown by its successful maiden edition, the organizers of AfroJam Sessions are eager to share the beauty of Afrobeats with the world, one show at a time.
