Africa Magic, in collaboration with MultiChoice, a Canal+ company, has announced the call for submissions ahead of the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA), Africa’s glamorous event for celebration of excellence in film and television content on the continent. From January 11th, 2026 to February 15th, 2026, filmmakers and content creators across the continent are allowed to submit their work for consideration in the designated categories.
The 12th edition of the AMVCA will feature 32 award categories, 18 of which will be decided by a jury, 11 left to audience voting, 2 special recognition awards for Lifetime Achievement and a Trailblazer Award. To be eligible, an entry must have been publicly screened or distributed between January 1st 2025 and December 31st, 2025. Feature films must have been shown in the cinemas, on television or distributed via any streaming platform to be considered.
The award categories include an additional two categories, with the hope of expanding the AMVCA’s pan-African reach across the different regions of the continent. To this effect, the Best Indigenous Language (North Africa) and Best Indigenous Language (Central Africa) have been integrated to further spotlight excellence in regional indigenous filmmaking. These additions reinforce the AMVCA’s commitment to catering to and projecting Africa’s dynamic languages, cultures and value systems and outstanding creative voices without restrictions.
The 12th AMVCA also announced liquor brand Don Julio as lead sponsor for the first time, marking a unique point in the development of the awards as a premium celebration of excellence in African cinema and creativity.
As with past editions, submissions for the 12th AMVCA will be completed online, with detailed guidelines and eligibility criteria available at www.africamagic.tv/amvca.
Renowned for projecting African talent and shaping some of the continent’s most iconic red-carpet, fashion, and cultural moments, the 12th AMVCA is poised to once again command the spotlight. The latest edition is set for sometime in May, 2026 in the bustling centre of Lagos, Nigeria, promising a powerful convergence of film, television, and creative professionals and other industry stakeholders within and beyond the continent. More details about the anticipated event are yet to be announced.
