BBC Africa Releases Documentary on Codeine Epidemic in Nigeria

Investigative journalist, Ruona J. Meyer and Adejuwon Soyinka of BBC pidgin embark on a journey to uncover the codeine epidemic in Nigeria. This takes them from the streets to the manufacturers in different parts of the country.

The Codeine epidemic is a serious issue in Nigeria, The Nigerian Senate estimated 3 million bottles of cough syrup with codeine were being consumed in 2017. The documentary follows Ruona and Adejuwon as they follow the trails from the roadside retailers to the people supplying these products. They visit a Rehab center in the North of Nigeria and show how bad the issue has become in those parts of the country.
