Beverly Naya Breaks Free Of Nollywood Typecasting in the Lockdown

Lockdown trailer starring Beverly Naya and Kalu Ikeagwu

Nollywood has typecast Beverly Naya by giving her roles that seem to emphasize her looks and British background (accent) as embodied by her role in The Wedding Party, Chief Daddy and Skinny Girl in Transit. Consequently, it’s refreshing to see her break from the stereotypical. In Lockdown, she plays Abigail, a junior manager in QBC, a top tier bank. Her boss, Mr. Robert, played by Kalu Ikeagwu, asks her to work late to finish a report, as a result of the perception of her colleagues that she gets preferential treatment.

It is while working late that she is trapped inside the bank alongside her boss, security and his mistress all night as QBC is under siege by “some guys who want to announce themselves in Lagos.”

The film is written and directed by Ladi Akinyosoye, who also directed the unheralded Beneficence.

Lockdown casts Knock Out Blessing stars: Linda Ejiofor and Bucci Franklin in supporting roles. Other cast members include Jude Chukwuwa, Kelechi Udegbe, Harry Dorgu, Tomi Fabamigbe, Jerry Bakpa and Tunbosun Aiyedehin.

Olumo Rock Studios will be releasing Lockdown in cinemas nationwide on September 20.
