Up-and-coming Nigerian artists Bulu, Konaly and Eezcrazy seek to make their mark in the country’s Pop scene. The trio are united not just by their youth but by a shared background: they had all grown up in Lagos, imbibing the city’s sonic temperaments.
Though Bulu had always loved music, he passed up on a chance to join the local church choir, creating playlists instead. He eventually launched his music career in 2020 and has expressed a bias for both conscious and House music. He has also tried his hands at Drill.
Eezcrazy, born Baderinwa Adetayo, who grew up in Yaba, had also been interested in music from a young age. Citing Burna Boy as one of his core influences, Konaly has experimented with Afrofusion, but also Rap and Drill. He too responded to his musical calling during Covid-blighted 2020.
Bulu and Konaly have joined forces to create Kilimanjaro. An Afropop jam, Kilimanjaro is an artful blend of soothing lyrics delivered on slow-rockin beats. With wordplay such as “many many things try to kill a man” and other one-liners, the song comes off as a quasi-poetic reflection on the becoming of an individual.
