CKay’s Third EP ‘Boyfriend’ Is A Potpourri Of Emotions

In a society where galvanic drums and sprightly percussions have become the cultural sound, making the average citizen averse to others, CKay, has mastered the art of serenading just about anybody with seductive drawls and sweet, sexy words. A stark contrast to his first ride in the direction of the mainstream, the five-track #WTFiCKay?, Boyfriend, his latest and a potpourri of love, lust, and the tingles accompanied by a mix of these feelings, is a slow burner that appraises his journey to self-discovery and ultimately self-love, the power behind the fearless interpretation and offering of his sound.

Perhaps spurn by the season of love or his readiness to share this side of him, which has been brewing since Love Nwantiti, one of the lead singles off his second EP, CKay The First, Boyfriend is an immersive project that finds CKay embedded in his love and lust centered narratives as a boyfriend, lover-boy and most importantly, an entertainer.

All in all, CKay is a dotting lover and this presents itself in different phases. On Felony, he begins his journey to strong feelings that have him wanting more on the following track, Show My Side, featuring Amaarae. On Jeje De Whine, over flamenco guitars mixed with a flute-y sound, the lusty lover is born and on Isabella, he brings out his wooing guns. Things switch up in sound and story on the Bianca Costa assisted Skoin Skoin on which CKay finds out love doesn’t always feel good and on Mezebu, which leans on the individual powers on Oxlade and KiDi, we find out all good things come to an end, including his relationship with his lover. The earlier released Kiss Me Like You Me, which also serves as the EP’s closer, encompasses the multitude of feelings he ran through from start to finish of the project.

As an entertainer, CKay has filled the void for those without love this season, personalizing his songs in a way that his listeners become one with him through the journey, and has a loverboy, we find that he’s irresistible.
