Ckay Releases New Single “You” Ahead of Forthcoming Album

CKay has released a new song titled You. The single, which was released at midnight on Friday, is a forerunner to his forthcoming debut album, Sad Romance.

The single’s title recalls the Netflix psychological thriller series based on Caroline Kepnes’s books. Anyone who has seen the series or read the books knows about Joe Goldberg’s love for the women he meets, a love so pathologically obsessive it sometimes takes a murderous swerve. In the new single, CKay leaves out the murder but retains the obsession.

Ckay’s obsession is aided by a busy soundscape, his vocals — subdued and deliberately slurred when he sings certain X-rated words — proclaiming his carnal intentions amid a mash of piano notes, trumpets, and languid Amapiano percussions.

The 27-year-old, self-described “emo-afrobeat artist” released You under his record label, Warner Music South Africa.

CKay’s album, when released, would be the Kaduna-born musician’s fourth body of work. He has so far released a trifecta of extended plays: Who the Fuck is CKay? (2017), CKay the First (2019), and Boyfriend (2021).
