Custodian Interview: L.A.X(StarBoy)

Posted on

I had the pleasure of interviewing StarBoy Entertainment’s LAX. Below is the text of the brief interview that occurred:

Where did your passion for music derive from?

My passion for music started as a school kid listening to different genres of music. Music was always a constant in my life from hearing music from my Mum’s bedroom to my driver always blaring Fuji music whilst on school runs.

Can you talk about some mentors you had whilst you were starting off in the music industry?

My mentors and musical influences are Wizkid, Kwam1, Chaka Demus and Pliers, Shabba Ranks to name a few.

What is your affiliation with Wizkid?
Wizkid is my friend, brother and most importantly my label boss. We have amazing chemistry in the studio and on stage; working with him is a great experience. What he brings to the table is pure class.  He has taught me a lot.

Some of your biggest songs are Caro and Ginger, how did they come about?

Caro was recorded in London. Legendury Beatz dropped the beats and we just vibed and the ideas were delivered by the angels. Laughs!
Wizkid did his verse and went shopping. By the time he was back, I had laced my verse and he was like “fantastic! Let’s take it to mix and mastering. We are shoot the video right away”.
Ginger on the other hand was recorded in Lagos. We had just arrived back from a show and the whole crew felt GINGERED, played a few beats from the system and there it was- the Ginger beat, the rest as they say is history.

Are you looking into the possibility of working with Davido, and Olamide in the near future?
Davido is a talented artiste who has worked very hard to achieve his current status.. Of course I would love to work with him when the opportunity presents itself. Olamide is one amazing dude whom I got so much respect for, he has never stopped showing me love. My latest effort Fine Boy is with Olamide.

There are other talented artists like Kesh, Shaydee, Boj. What’s your relationship with them like?

Kesh, Shaydee and BOJ are my buddies, we kick it together. Boj and I have a collaboration with DJ Jimmy Jatt-titled Body
What can your fans expect from you in the remainder of the year?
My plans for the remainder of 2015 is dropping hit after hit as I intend to disturb your speakers and the airwaves  till December.
Many youths look up to you, what advice do you have for youths trying to get into singing/rapping but lack support financially?
My advice to upcoming artistes is to focus on your dreams, believe in your ability, there are no short cuts to success except through hard work and prayers.
Being  a  relatively heavy weight in the industry, can you describe how that’s affected your social life for the good or bad?
I like to chill with my close friends and family at home playing Fifa games, table tennis, and generally goofing around.
What is your take on the emergence of other new artists?13. The competition surely must be driving fuel for you to lead the pack of new generation of artists.
Emergence of new acts is good for the industry as it tells you there are a lot of young cats gunning for your spot hence you have to constantly be on your A game.
Thank you LAX for the interview. We at Culture Custodian appreciate it.
Thank you bro.
