The sounds and rhythms of Ghanian-born Dan Drizzy’s music pull from both his family’s ties to Nigerian highlife and his years spent in South Africa. Known for his fan-favorite melodies, arrangements, and songwriting, he’s a star on the rise in Ghana and the rest of West Africa. In line with the world’s current climate, his new single, Punani (Pt 2), is a laidback attempt at rousing matching feelings within his listeners. The UglyOnIt and Trillaman produced single, is also a remake of an earlier released original version first heard on Drizzy’s breakthrough EP, Business with God.
While Drizzy incorporates both English and a bit of twi and Yoruba in his hushed articulation, fusing cultures to show off the interconnectedness of his roots and also give Punani (Pt2) a foreign flavor, producers UglyOnIt and Trillaman collate Afrobeat influences with Amapiano sound in the arrangement, and what results is a soothing yet dance-floor ready single.
