After the long hiatus from music which Davido took following his son’s death, the Nigerian afrobeats star returned to the scene with a 17-track album, Timeless, which he released on March 31 to wide critical acclaim and commercial success. The album has set some new records, such as peaking at Number 2 on the US Apple Music Album chart, becoming the highest charting album by an afrobeats artist. Davido has been busy promoting the album across the world. Lately, during a stop in Dubai where he spoke with a UAE-based publication, Davido revealed there is, indeed, more to come from him this year.

The 30-year-old said he is working on a docu-series on his life. This series, which is titled David, will premiere on Netflix this December.

“I have a movie coming out in December with Netflix,” Davido said. “It’s very, very big. This is the first time I’ve said anything about it, actually. It’s a documentary, a docu-series about my life, called David. I shouldn’t be talking about this, but yeah.”

David will not only be the first series to be released by the musician, but also the first such autobiographical series by a major contemporary Nigerian artist. In that interview, Davido also revealed his intent to look beyond the music industry and into film.

“I want to shoot movies too. I’m building a creative agency, so short films will be a part of that,” he said.

Davido is not entirely a stranger to the film world. Two years ago, he played himself, even if briefly, in the Hollywood film Coming 2 America.
