Davina Oriakhi and Preye Draw Inspiration from Scripture for ‘Vanity’

Posted on

One of the biggest criticisms we see of women in music circles in Nigeria is their unwillingness to collaborate with one another. Think about it, have you ever heard Tiwa and Yemi Alade or Seyi Shay or Niniola on the same track? Unfortunately, the answer is no. Singers, Davina Oriakhi and Preye Itams, look to have made a decision to do things differently as they release their first joint effort tagged Vanity.

Pointing to two Bible verses as inspiration for the record, Preye and Davina recreate 90s esque RnB music as they go soul searching and denounce the endless search for money and other material possessions.

Ecclesiastes 1:14

“I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit.”

Mark 8:36

“For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”

Uploaded unto a new Soundcloud page named ‘Davina x Preye,’ we can’t help but let the questions fly and ask if this Gabriel Ryder produced and Tay Iwar engineered track is the first of many more collaborations between the duo.
