In the music world, it’s very common for songwriters and artists to channel other figures as metaphors. On his 2023 debut, Dboi channels Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon and one of the world’s richest men and the manner in which he “stacks the money”. For D Boi who’s currently based in South Africa and signed to PentLife Music SA, the label owned by the Nigerian producer and songwriter KDDO (fka Kiddominant), this acts as a precursor to a longer length body of work.
KDDO bears production on here employing captivating guitars and smooth beats as the soundscape upon which DBoi’s vocals lie. DBoi has multiple motivations behind his foray into music, and he lists the musical influences of the church and a generally unavoidable passion for music, but most notably, as a vehicle for self-expression which has kept him on the straight and narrow.
